Drum Birthing Workshops

As a musician and producer, I have always dreamed of making my own instruments. Long before I understood frequency in a studio, I was fascinated by glasses clinking together, hands tapping on wood and the rhythms that appeared beneath my fingers whenever I sat at a table. I have always been curious about how the simplest materials can become music. When I moved to Brazil and received the opportunity to begin learning how to birth Lakota-style drums, it felt like a natural continuation of this relationship with sound.

The process of birthing a drum is both craftsmanship and inner discovery. It can reveal our impatience, our perfectionism and our tendency to compare ourselves with those around us. It asks us to trust our own hands, our own rhythm and the time our creation needs.

Lakota teachings speak of the drum as the heartbeat of Mother Earth, a beat that also lives within each of us. I feel this when a newly birthed drum begins to find its voice. No two drums ever carry exactly the same sound. Each one holds the original signature of its maker and becomes a personal instrument for rhythm, singing, meditation, embodied healing and moving stagnant energy through the body.

In these workshops, I accompany you through the practical and personal process of creating your own drum, leaving space for everything the drum may reveal and teach along the way.
